Dive Into Lifelong Water Safety & Health
Living in Maui means water is a part of everyday life—from beaches and pools to streams and surf. That’s why the Maui Family YMCA puts water safety and swimming skills at the heart of our aquatics programs. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to improve your stroke, our swim programs help participants of all ages become confident, capable swimmers.
Youth Group Swim Lessons
Our progressive swim curriculum begins as early as 6 months and builds water confidence step by step. Each stage is designed to help your child grow their skills, from basic water safety to advanced stroke techniques.
-
Stage 0: Infants and toddlers are introduced to the aquatic environment with parental guidance
-
Stage 1: Develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water
-
Stages 2–6: Skill progression including front and back stroke, rescue techniques, and swim stamina
- Emphasis on safety, supervision, and confidence-building

Why Water Safety Matters
As an island community, teaching kids and families how to be safe around water isn’t just a program—it’s a priority. The Maui Family YMCA’s aquatics philosophy is built on five pillars:
- Education
- Emergency Preparedness
- Preventative Care
- Supervision
- Access to Formal Swim Lessons
We use the YMCA’s Safety Around Water (SAW) and Youth Swim Lesson (YSL) curriculum not only for our members, but also in outreach to the greater Maui community.
