The Heart of Community Wellness on Maui

Since 1960, the Maui Family YMCA has been committed to building a healthier, more connected community across the islands of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai. As the only YMCA serving all of Maui County, we provide access to fitness, youth development, and wellness programs that strengthen spirit, mind, and body—for all.

Our Mission

To enhance the quality of life for individuals, families, and our community through programs that foster moral growth and build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

We believe wellness goes beyond the gym. It’s about making meaningful connections, supporting one another, and growing together as one ʻohana.

Our Core Values

At the heart of everything we do are the YMCA’s core values:

  • Caring – We show a sincere concern for others.
  • Honesty – We act with integrity, truthfulness, and fairness.
  • Respect – We value the worth of every person.
  • Responsibility – We do what is right and are accountable for our behavior.

These principles guide our programs, our people, and our purpose.

Our Story

From humble beginnings to island-wide impact:

1960 – Founded by Peg Andrews with the construction of Camp Keanae in Hana.

1961 – Expanded to Kahului’s Cameron Center to support afterschool programs.

1991 – Opened a brand-new fitness facility at Keopuolani Park Grounds.

1992 – Added a 25-yard outdoor heated pool to expand aquatics offerings.

1993 – Constructed a second building including racquetball/handball courts—among the few on Maui.

Today – We operate 8 locations across Maui, serving thousands through fitness, childcare, camps, and youth programs. Over 150 dedicated staff members continue our mission daily.

What Makes Us Different

Our members tell us the Maui Family YMCA isn’t just a place to work out—it’s their second home. Our staff and volunteers treat everyone like part of the family, and that’s not just a saying—it’s our way of life. We call it living with ʻOhana spirit.
